How to Add Units in GPOS
This tutorial will guide you through the step-by-step process of adding new Units of Measurement in GPOS for your products.
🛠️ Why You Need to Add Units
-
To manage product measurements accurately (e.g., kg, gm, liter, ml, piece)
-
To ensure correct stock calculation and reporting
-
To support multi-unit items with automatic conversion (e.g., 1 carton = 12 pieces)
-
To maintain consistency in pricing and billing
📋 Steps to Add Units in GPOS
✅ Step 1: Go to the Units Management Screen
-
Log in to your GPOS dashboard.
-
From the side menu, navigate to “Inventory”.

Click on “Units”.
✅ Step 2: Click “Add New Unit”
-
On the Units page, click the “Add New” button.
-
A form will appear to enter the unit details.
✅ Step 3: Fill in the Unit Details
Fill in the following fields:
Field | Description |
---|---|
Unit ID | A unique ID for the unit (auto-generated or manual). |
Name | Full name of the unit (e.g., Kilogram, Liter, Piece). |
Short Name | Short form for the unit (e.g., kg, L, pcs). |
Base Unit | Select the base unit this unit is linked to (for conversions). |
Multiplier Details | Enter the conversion factor (e.g., 1 carton = 12 pieces → multiplier = 12). |
✅ Step 4: Save the Unit
-
After entering all details, click “Save”.
-
The new unit will be added to your GPOS database and available for product creation.
🔐 Important Notes
-
You must create the Base Unit first if it doesn’t exist.
-
Multipliers are required only for related units (e.g., Box → Piece).
-
Unit names should be unique to avoid confusion.
🎯 Tips
-
Use clear short names for faster billing (e.g., pcs instead of piece).
-
Set proper multipliers to ensure correct stock tracking.
-
Review your units regularly to keep the list organized.
By following these steps, you can easily add and manage units in GPOS — ensuring accurate product measurements, smooth inventory control, and correct billing.
